My dearest reader, I hope my one post in 2020 finds you all well and healthy. How have you been?

Although I haven’t managed to find the time to write in here, I’ve been thinking of you all many times. Keeping sane and healthy can be hard these days. Especially stuck at home. Now more than ever, we need community. We need to stay balanced. And eating healthy is all about balance.
As the global COVID-19 pandemic continues, eating out in your area may not be an option for you. But this could be your opportunity to try cooking more meals at home. And experience the many health benefits. Plus, saving some money on your food bills too.
Make healthy food a priority in your life and allow it to bring your family and friends together (even remotely). Learn to love how it makes you feel, how delicious it is and remember that a healthy balanced diet and regular exercise are the keys to a healthy lifestyle.
Discover the 10 easy way to eating healthy now:
#1 Have breakfast
You know it, I know it, we all know it by now that eating a high-protein breakfast has been shown to reduce cravings and calorie intake throughout the day. A nutritious breakfast will set you up with energy for the day.
#2 Eat a balanced diet
Eat from all five food groups, enjoying a wide range of vegetables, fruit, lean meats, fish, eggs, nuts, seeds, wholegrains and naturally lower-fat dairy foods across each week.
#3 Eat the rainbow
Variety is key. Eat fruits and vegetables every single day. Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and nutrient dense, which means they are packed with vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and fiber. The brighter, deeper colored fruits and vegetables contain higher concentrations of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants—and different colors provide different benefits.
#4 Cook more at home
Cooking from scratch is one of the most important life skills we can learn, and is a great way to understand what goes into the meals we eat. Start cooking more meals and keep an eye on what goes into your food. Check out my blog for lots of recipe inspiration and ideas.
#5 Stay hydrated
Water helps flush our systems of waste products and toxins, yet many people go through life dehydrated—causing tiredness, low energy, and headaches. It’s common to mistake thirst for hunger, so staying well hydrated will also help you make healthier food choices.
#6 Take your time
Stop eating before you feel full. It actually takes a few minutes for your brain to tell your body that it has had enough food, so eat slowly.
#7 Read the labels
It’s important to be aware of what’s in your food as manufacturers often hide large amounts of sugar or unhealthy fats in packaged food, even food claiming to be healthy like Müsli for breakfast found in most stores. Try t make a habit in reading the labels when buying food.
#8 Move more
Staying active is extremely important, especially these days. It’s recommended that adults aim for at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity a week.
Go for a walk as often as possible. Always take the stairs. Take the trash out daily. Pick up jogging. Start doing yoga. Join an online supportive and inspiring fitness community like Sweat or Les Mills.
#9 Get enough sleep
Good-quality sleep affects how well we’re able to learn, grow and perform in life. While we’re asleep, our bodies have that all-important time to repair.
#10 Moderation is key
Key to any healthy diet is moderation. But what is moderation? Eating only as much food as your body needs. You should NOT feel stuffed at the end of a meal, rather satisfied. And being balanced, which basically means a balance of protein, fiber, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins and minerals to sustain a healthy body.
It’s a time for happiness, not stress your body with so much food! Keep this in mind for in the next weeks. I hope these tips will help you stay on track and keep you feeling healthy throughout the season. Fore more tips, please read here.
Enjoy your time with friends and your loved ones.
Stay healthy & be happy,
Xoxo, Cris
