The Best Formula For A Yummy Green Smoothie

July 22, 2014 by Cris 8 Comments

A perfect delicious green smoothie without any kind of sweeteners has a formula behind. First of all, I would like to wipe out the myth that says blending raw vegetables and fruits requires a stronger blender than your standard one. I promise you, it doesn’t.

The Best Formula For A Yummy Green Smoothie
So I don’t want to hear any excuses or complains about the price and all that because you don’t need a Vitamix or Blendtec that costs around $500 to get a large amounts of fruits and leafy greens into your daily diet. I’ve been using mine, which is just a regular blender that cost me less than 40 euros, for as long as I can remember.
I love all kinds of smoothies, especially the dark leafy green ones for a couple of reasons:

a) They are a natural energy booster
I usually make and have them in the morning, but you can also have them as a treat at any time of the day.

b) They are fully loaded with antioxidants
The phytonutrients from the leafy greens and some of the fruits keep our immune systems to function properly.

c) They are done in only a few minutes
And guess what?! They also taste amazingly delicious, sweet and creamy if you follow the most important three steps.

1. Keep in mind the best 70/30 formula.

If you have never tried it before, don’t just go and throw fruits and veggies in. You might end up throwing it away because it tastes like lawn. Give a shot to my personal formula: 70% fresh fruits to 30% leafy greens and I promise you’ll get the best sweet creamy smoothie ever.

2. Blend it until beautifully smooth.

If you have only a regular blender, then you need to make sure that you blend it in a few stages. So go ahead and blend up first the leafy greens and water. Then start adding the other half (the remaining fruits) and blend again.
Before serving, dip a spoon to taste – you might need more fruits or water to balance the sweetness.

3. Don’t use any kind of sweeteners other than fresh fruits

You might get a bitter taste at first but by adding more fruits like kiwi, apples, mango, peaches, bananas, lime/lemon or any kind of berries, it simply balances the bitterness of the green leaves and get the most desired creamy consistency.

Having said all that, all you need for this green smoothie is a regular blender and loooooove for fresh veggies and fruits.

I love making green smoothies for my breakfast then juicing as a supplement to other meals. I found that you can cut a significant portion of the fruits (so sugar!) by using low fat or non-fat vanilla yogurt. You get a nice boost of dairy with less sugar! Or try using some natural sugars like stevia to get sweetness without the extra calories!

My intention was to get an energy boost without any added sugar. I believe that the fructose from added sugars is poisonous, but NOT from fruits.
